It was a horrible sight on Tuesday as residents of Anambra State woke up to behold the body of a yet-to-be-identified pregnant woman hanging from a cashew tree.
NATIONAL POST reports that though it prrsented as suicide, the police in the state said it is a case of murder.
The body was seen dangling on the tree along Uke-Ideani Road in Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
Anambra State Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu confirmed the incident.
In a statement by the state police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, the Commissioner said what happened was suspected to be murder, not suicide.
He described the incident as unfortunate and a stark example of “man’s inhumanity to man" and l appealed to both community and local government leaders to assist with information that can aid in apprehending the killers.
The police chief said he had ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, residents said they only woke up to discover the body hanging from the tree, suspecting that the incident must have happened in midnight.
