By

Body of a man who went missing on Tuesday has been discovered floating in a river in Ibokun community, Obokun local government area of Osun State.

The deceased, a resident of the town, was identified as Kehinde Ijebu.

He was suspected to have entered the river voluntarily, with his recent health struggles cited as a possible factor.

A neighbour, who requested anonymity, stated that Kehinde had shown signs of emotional distress in recent times.

“He went missing on Tuesday, and we could not find him. But on Wednesday, some people alerted us to a floating body on the Oyile River in Ibokun.

“The belief is that he drowned himself in the river due to a health challenge he had.

"His whereabouts were not known since Tuesday evening. Some people in the neighbourhood concluded he had disappeared as he used to do,” he told DAILY POST.

Eyewitnesses reportedly spotted the corpse drifting on the river’s surface early Wednesday morning.

“His dead body was noticed floating on the river by passersby, who notified us. The matter was reported to the police,” the same resident added.

Following the discovery, local customs were observed before Kehinde was buried near the river.

“He was buried at the bank of the river around 11 am on Wednesday,” the resident said, noting that traditional rites were carried out beforehand.

When contacted, the spokesperson for Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident and clarified that no foul play was immediately suspected.

"The incident happened. There were no marks of violence on his body. The family approached us that they wanted to bury him, but we suggested an autopsy, which they objected to.

“They said they wanted to bury him. I can’t say how or where he was buried. Investigation is still ongoing into the matter,” she stated.
