Curfew imposed in Benue as herdsmen renew killings

The Executive Chairman of Gwer West Local Government Area in Benue State, Hon. Ormin Torsar Victor, has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the area.

This came amid renewed killings being carried out by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

NATIONAL POST had reported that at least 23 people were murdered in Benue over the weekend.

According to the chairman, the curfew is to curb rising insecurity in the area.

Victor said the curfew, which begins at 6:30 p.m. daily, takes immediate effect and applies to all movement into and out of the local government.

“This directive takes immediate effect.

“With this Executive directive, people coming into Gwer West LGA and those going out to other places are to do so within the stipulated time of 6:30 pm,” the Chairman said in a statement.

The council boss explained that the measure was temporary and would be subject to review based on improvements in the security situation.
