PDP South-East caucus, NWC in closed-door meeting after defection threat

Key members of the South East Zonal Executive Committee (ZEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were on Tuesday locked in a meeting with the National Working Committee (NWC).

NATIONAL POST reports that this is coming days after the PDP caucus in the zone threatened to dump the party if it failed to recognize SKE Ude-Okoye as the National Secretary.

Already the Senator Buloka Saraki-led committee is said to be worsening the crisis in the party by reportedly recommending that Senator Samuel Anyanwu be retained as the National Secretary. 

It was gathered that those present in the meeting included the National Vice Chairman (South East), Ali Odefa; the National Woman Leader, Hon. Amina Darasimi Bryhm and the National Auditor, Okechukwu Obiechina Daniel.

Also present are several state chairmen, such as Chidi Chidebe of Anambra State and Dr Martin Chukwunweike of Enugu State, Senator Col. Austin Akobundu (Abia Central), former National Woman Leader, Iyom Josephine Anenih, and other prominent stakeholders.

The meeting is being chaired by the Deputy National Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja, on behalf of the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Umar Damagum.

Sources hinted that the zone is firm that should the party fail to accept its nomination of Ude-Okoye, the members would make their defection threat real.
