A Reverend Father, Anthony Udogu of the Catholic Diocese of Awka has slumped and died while playing lawn tennis.
His shocking demise has thrown the entire members of his congregation St Francis of Assisi, Awka, and the Diocese into mourning.
Diocesean Chancellor, Rev Fr Charles Ndubuisi, who confirmed the death on Tuesday, said: “With faith in the resurrection of the Lord, the Catholic Diocese of Awka announces the demise of our brother priest, Rev Fr Anthony Udogu, whose sudden death occurred in the early hours of today.”
He said the deceased priest collapsed while playing tennis and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, adding that all efforts to revive him proved unsuccessful.
Ndubuisi said the burial details would be announced later.
