Nigerian Government has slammed a criminal defamation suit against the Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The case, marked CR/297/25, bothers on alleged defamatory remarks she made on live television.
It was filed before a Federal Capital Territory High Court on May 16, 2025.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan is the sole defendant, with the government accusing her of “making imputation knowing or having reason to believe that such imputation will harm the reputation of a person”, citing section 391 of the Penal Code, cap 89, Laws of the Federation, 1990. The offence is punishable under section 392 of the same law.
Listed as witnesses are Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and the immediate past governor of Kogis state, Yahaya Bello.
Natasha’s ordeal started after she refused to accept a new seat allocated to her in the Senate.
Thereafter, she accused the Senate President of sexual harassment.
