Key IPOB/ESN figures captured, sit-at-home ineffective - NSA Ribadu

The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, on Thursday, announced that key figures of the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB), and its militant wing, Eastern Security Network, (ESN), have been captured.

Ribadu, who made these remarks during a presentation on the security achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration at the All Progressives Congress national summit, said the sit-at-home order which earlier grounded activities in the region, had become ineffective.

NATIONAL POST recalls that for over two years, the regular Monday sit-at-home turned the South-East into a ghost area, with residents afraid to step out of their homes.

However, for months now, the situation has eased off, with markets, schools and other businesses returning to normalcy on Mondays.

According to Ribadu, “In the South-East, a welcome development is that the sit-at-home orders are becoming increasingly ineffective.

“Key IPOB/ESN figures have been captured or neutralised. Over 50 police stations and numerous police posts have been rebuilt.

“Attacks on security forces have significantly reduced, and social and economic activities are normalising.”

The NSA also appraised the security situation nationwide, expressing delight that the war against terror was being won.

“In the North-West, it has been a watershed year in the fight against banditry, with 11,250 hostages freed and a decline in mass abductions.

“Decisive blows have been dealt to top warlords such as Ali Kachalla, Boderi, Halilu Sububu, Dangote, Isuhu Yellow, and Damuna,” he said.
