Luka Modric: Real Madrid provides update as Mbappe pens tribute

Real Madrid striker, Kylian Mbappe, has sent words of praise to departing legendary football icon, Luka Modric. 

This came after the Croatian International announced that he will be leaving the club after over a decade of dedicated service to Los Blancos.

During his over a decade with the club, he became not just an icon but a household name. 

Real Madrid has now confirmed that Modric will play his last LaLiga game for the club this weekend.

The Spanish giants announced this in a statement on Thursday.

The 39-year-old has been at the Bernabeu for 13 seasons and won a club-record 28 trophies.

Modric, who also won the Ballon d'Or award in 2018, has played in 34 league fixtures this season, starting 16 of them.

"Real Madrid C.F. and our captain Luka Modrić have agreed to end an unforgettable period as a player for our club at the end of the Club World Cup, which our team will play starting June 18 in the United States," the statement read.

"Real Madrid would like to express its gratitude and deep affection for the man who is already one of the greatest legends of our club and of world football.

"Real Madrid wishes Luka Modrić and his family all the best in this new stage of his life. The Santiago Bernabéu will pay tribute to him this Saturday on the occasion of our team's final LaLiga match."

Meanwhile, Mbappe took to his social media handle to hail Modric.

Mbappe described Modric as a wonderful person and one of the best players in football history. 

“I was lucky enough to be able to play and share the locker room with you this season. 

"But you won something that has no price: the respect and the admiration of the world. Thank you for everything LEGEND," he wrote on Instagram.
