Benue: ‘No single culprit arrested’ - Gov Ortom cries over worsening insecurity

By

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has lamented the inability of security agents to apprehend those behind the mindless killings in the state.

Benue, has in the past few weeks, witnessed mass murder of residents by suspected herdsmen.

The attacks have continued despite deployment of more security personnel to the area.

Some of the security men, including policemen, have also paid the supreme price.

And speaking through his media aide, Sir Kula Tersoo, Alia cried out that  not a single terrorist had been apprehended.

The governor, who was reacting to criticisms by a faction of the All Progressives Congress, APC, loyal to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Sen. George Akume, said, “What more do they expect from the governor?

“He has worked tirelessly to address the security crisis. His efforts are evident in the visits by the Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval Staff, other top security officials, and even the National Security Adviser.

“More security personnel have been deployed, yet, sadly, no terrorist has been arrested. The governor has supported these operations by providing 300 motorcycles to ease the mobility of the security forces.”

“What is happening now is not worse than the crisis during Akume’s tenure when people from Taraba and Nasarawa states invaded Benue, or the attacks under Ortom’s administration," he added.

The APC faction, while referring to the herdsmen attacks which claimed 42 lives, accused Alia of being helpless and confused, calling on President Bola Tinubu to intervene.
