Abia State Police Command has taken into custody one Mr Ugochukwu Ezechinyere for allegedly conniving with his wife to inflict injuries on his 7-year-old biological son, Master Ugochukwu Destiny.
Ugochukwu allegedly carried out the act alongside his second wife whose name was not revealed, at their residence in No. 27 Ugo Street, off Adaelu road, Aba.
A whistleblower reported the assault on the child to the office of the wife of Abia State Governor who directed the Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs to swing into action.

Acting on the report, a team from the Ministry, led by the Director of Child Development, Mrs. Josephine Onulaka, on behalf of the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Maureen Aghukwa retrieved the child from his school.
Speaking at the school, the Commissioner's representative said that the rescued child would be taken into protective custody by the State government in line with the state’s child protection protocols.
She urged the members of the public to remain vigilant and to report any abuse of minors to her Ministry or to law enforcement agencies, pointing out that further investigations were initiated at the residence of the suspects.
Young Ugochukwu, who is a Basic 1 Pupil, narrated that he was repeatedly molested by his father, Mr. Ezechinyere Ugochukwu, and his (Destiny's) stepmother, identified simply as Kelechi, crying that he was beaten with wooden stick and sharp ordeals by the suspects and left to suffer in pain.
