Teenage university student accuses faculty officer of sexual harassment

The management of Clifford University, Owerrinta, Abia State has suspended a faculty officer, Mr Obioma Nwogwgwu over alleged sexual harassment.

Trouble started for Nwogwugwu after the allegation was slammed against him by a  17-year-old female law student.

A human rights group, Behind Bars Human Rights Foundation, in a petition to both the university management and the Okpualangwa Divisional Police headquarters, detailed how the alleged incident occurred. 

In a swift action, the management of the institution has suspended Nwogwugwu indefinitely with effect from May 29, 2025.

He is to face a staff disciplinary committee of the university soon.

According to the statement, "The said Mr Obioma Nwogwgwu has been placed on an indefinite suspension with effect from May 29, 2025.”

“He will be arraigned before a staff disciplinary committee of the university soonest.”

The statement dated May 29, 2025 further assured the public that all the results of the institution had been voted by the University's Senate and are presently domiciled with the Registry, adding that if there are issues with the results, the individual should meet the Registry for resolution.

Meanwhile, while thanking the management of Clifford University swiftly for taking actions about the issues raised by the female student, the  Director of Behind Bars Human Rights Foundation, Abia State Chapter, Marvelous Ochiegbu called for fairness and accountability in the investigation of the matter.

Ochiegbu, who spoke on Saturday, said that his organization should be involved in the process, having raised the issue.

He said this was to ensure that the matter was not swept under the carpets.

He further appealed that the female student should not be victimized.
