Lagos govt shuts down popular club over drug use, others

By

Lagos State Government has shut down a popular relaxation spot, the Lobster Beach Club.

It accused the outfit of committing some infractions against the government’s policies.

They include excessive noise, drug use, and the reckless deployment of fireworks within the premises.

The popular beachfront venue had come under scrutiny following persistent complaints from nearby residents over its disruptive activities.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the closure in a statement shared via his verified X account on Tuesday.

“The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (@LasepaOfficial) received formal complaints from aggrieved neighbors about the activities at Lobster Beach Club and their adverse effects on the surrounding environment,” Wahab wrote.

The club is now required to present all relevant documentation, such as environmental permits and evidence of properly designated smoking areas, before any reopening consideration can be made.

As of the time of filing this report, the club is yet to react to the allegations.

This is not the first time the state government is shutting down clubs for such actions.

It remains a sustained action aimed at sanitizing Nigeria’s economic capital.
