2027: Peter Obi issues stern warning to INEC, says ‘our votes will count you’

Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, the former presidential candidate of Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi warned the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, against any attempt to rig the polls.

Despite coming third in the 2023 election, Obi and his followers, known as Obidients, still insist that he won the election.

He challenged the process up till the Supreme Court, but President Bola Tinubu’s victory was stamped by the apex court.

The former Anambra State governor has now issued a stern warning that any attempt to subvert the will of the people in the 2027 general elections will be met with resistance.

Speaking on Tuesday in Abuja at the unveiling of the book, Peter Obi, the Political Change Agent, written by Ike Abonyi, Obi declared that Nigerians are prepared to take back their country through active political participation and transparent voting.

“We will vote. The vote will count. And those who think it will not count, it will count them,” he said in a bold statement.

It is unclear what he meant by that statement.

He challenged the growing reliance on foreign systems as models for development, emphasizing that Nigeria's problems are rooted in self-inflicted policy failures.

“The problem is Nigeria. We destroyed our sources of agricultural productivity and more. Now, people are hungry and begging for food, yet we have land everywhere.”

Obi also called for the emergence of honest and capable leaders at all levels, particularly in legislative positions.

“There is no shortcut. Even the shortcuts will not get us there. It is a sacrifice.

“We must seek out genuine people who want to clean the house, those who can serve in the Houses of Assembly and Representatives.

“If your purpose is to make money from politics, know that this time around, we are watching,” he added.
