A group of protesters were on Thursday chased away by political thugs in Ondo State.
The protesters, led by a human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore as well as some protesters under the #TakeItBack movement, gathered in Akure, Ondo State capital, for a protest but were confronted by thugs.
Our correspondent reports that the armed thugs were alleged to have been sponsored by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Also among the protesters was activist lawyer, Tope Temokun.
But as they commenced the civil action at the popular Cathedral Junction in Akure, the thugs swooped on them.
Some items belonging to the protesters, including mobile phones were confiscated by the thugs.
Sowore, while condemning the attack, stated that the thugs without any provocation descended on them while the police operatives as the scene looked away.
"While we converged here at cathedral to raise our voices against the hardship and hunger, some armed thugs came to unleash terror on us.
"The thugs came with weapons. They disrupted the peaceful protest and chased everyone away. These are a set of people sponsored by the APC government," he alleged.
Meanwhile, the commissioner of police in the state, Wilfred Afolabi vowed to investigate the attack on the protesters.
