Tinubu finally confers national honour on Humphrey Nwosu, others

President Bola Tinubu has finally confered national honour on former chairman of the defunct National Electoral Commission, NEC, Humphrey Nwosu.

Also honoured is MKO Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 election.

He announced the honours during his June 12 address to a joint session of the National Assembly in Abuja. 

Igbo people have been demanding for a national honour on Nwosu, but it met a brick wall at the National Assembly weeks ago.

Tinubu has now honoured Nwosu who was laid to rest weeks ago.

Also honoured are Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka, human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), and Catholic Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah.

 Others are: Prof. Olatunji Dare (CON), Kunle Ajibade (OON), Dapo Olorunyomi (OON), Bayo Onanuga (CON), Ayo Obe (OON), and journalist and Vanguard publisher Uncle Sam Amuka Pemu (CON), who turns 90 on June 13.

Other notable names include Senator Shehu Sani, Governor Uba Sani, Prof. Shafideen Amuwo, Barr. Ledum Mitee, Hon. Labaran Maku, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, and Mobolaji Akinyemi. Awards ranged from the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) to the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
