2027: Gov Zulum leads protest as major crisis looms in APC

By

Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, a major crisis is looming in the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The development steps from the alleged plan to dump Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate in 2027.

There has been various endorsement of President Tinubu as the APC sole candidate for the election.

However, the party leaders remain silent on Shettima.

Not comfortable, Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, on Sunday led a protest after the party's leaders endorsed President Tinubu for reelection without including Shettima.

NATIONAL POST learnt that the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, and National Vice Chairman (North-East), Comrade Mustapha Salihu, at a North-East stakeholders meeting in Gombe on Sunday, endorsed Tinubu for a second term without acknowledging Shettima.

It degenerated into chaos before Ganduje and Salihu were escorted out of the venue under heavy security.

Delegates were seen protesting seriously their failure to endorse Shettima.

A public affairs analyst, Abdul-Aziz Na'ibi Abubakar, has predicted that it could be the genesis of a crisis in the party.

He wrote on X: "The beginning of the APC’s downfall has just begun as Governor Zulum led a protest against the APC North-East meeting for failing to endorse Kashim Shettima ahead of 2027!"

Before now, there have been claims of a strained relationship between Tinubu and his Vice, Shettima.

However, Shettima has never come out publicly to acknowledged the alleged weakened relationship.
