Tension in UNN over abduction of student inside campus

Fear has gripped the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, community following the reported abduction of a female student inside the campus.

News circulating online shows that the victim, simply identified as Dorcas, was abducted by suspected kidnappers while jogging inside the University in the early hours of Sunday.   

Her abductors are said to be demanding a N10 million ransom. 

A Facebook user, Chijinkem Ugwuanyi wrote: “‎UNN postgraduate student kidnapped while jogging inside school.

“Kidnappers demand N10m ransom.

“Yesterday, Dorcas who is a PhD student of the Department of Mass Communication, University of Nigeria Nsukka was kidnapped inside the school premises.

“She left the PG hostel, Peter Odili Hall around 6am to jog, which she does regularly inside the school taking the same axis.

“An hour later, they called demanding a ransom of 10m.”

Both the University authority and the police are yet to issue any statement on the reported incident. 

NATIONAL POST recalls that months back, disappearance of students from the UNN campus became a regular occurrence. 

Most of the victims then, especially female students, were usually called through their mobile phones, only to be abducted.
