VIDEO: Outrage as Oriokpa Nsukka masquerades unleash mayhem on residents

By

Months after a ban on their operation was lifted, the popular Oriokpa Nsukka masquerades are on rampage again.

NATIONAL POST recalls that in May last year, a ban was imposed on the masquerades after they beat a nurse to a pulp.

The victim, identified as Miss Blessing Ogbonna, is a staff of a private hospital in Nsukka.

Despite being properly kitted and on her way to duty, she was flogged until she fell down from a motorbike.

Following the outrage that greeted the incident, Nsukka Town Union suspended the operation of the masquerades.

However, months later, the ban was listed.

Reports now show that exactly one year later, the masquerades are back more deadly than ever.

Two viral videos circulating online show moments they unleashed terror on road users.

Both incident happened yesterday, Sunday, at the University town of Nsukka.

In one of the videos, Oriokpa masquerades were seen taking turns to flog a passerby, with one of them said to have stabbed the victim.

He was allegedly flogged till he lost consciousness for refusing to give the masquerades money.

Some sympathizers were later seen pouring water on the young man.

In another video, one of the masquerades smacked down a young man, with residency wailing helplessly in the background.

Reactions have been trailing both incidents, with many calling on the Enugu State Government to take decisive action.
