Lagos State government has denied involvement in the demolition of Peter Obi's brother's property in the state.
The government said it would commence an investigation to ascertain who was behind it.
The commissioner of the Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
The Lagos State government had denied demolishing the property of Peter Obi's brother, noting that the demolisher is unknown.
This comes after Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party at the 2023 election, accused the Lagos State government of demolishing his brother's property.
His allegation had attracted reactions from Nigerians, including popular activists Omoyele Sowore, Adeyanyu Deji and Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
However, the Lagos State government clarified that Peter Obi's claim was false, noting that the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) or any other arm of the government did not carry out the said demolition.
"We wish to categorically state that the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) or any other arm of the Lagos State Government did not carry out the said demolition.
"We urge the public to disregard Mr. Peter Obi's claims and rest assured that the Lagos State Government will continue to work tirelessly to maintain law and order in our great state. We will not be swayed by baseless allegations or attempts to discredit our efforts," the statement by the Lagos State government partly reads.
Meanwhile, the government said it has directed the Permanent Secretary, Office of Urban Development, Architect Gbolahan Owodunni, to request a full investigation by the Lagos State Building Control Agency into this matter.
"This investigation will help clarify the circumstances surrounding the demolition and ensure that any necessary actions are taken," it added.
NATIONAL POST recalls that Obi had stormed the location while the demolition was ongoing, after which he linked it to agencies of the Lagos State government.
