Clear indications emerged Thursday night that the state of emergency imposed on Rivers State is coming to an end.
This as the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesome Wike, and the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday night.
This came shortly after Fubara had a closed-door meeting with the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule and other members of the Assembly.
It was then followed with another meeting between the feuding parties and President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Thursday night.
The development has been confirmed by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a post on his X handle on Friday.
Onanuga said Tinubu demonstrated he wanted peace for Rivers State.
He said: "Rivers' peace talks in pictures
"President Tinubu has demonstrated once again that he wants peace for Rivers State. Just like he brought together the political gladiators to sign a peace deal in December 2023, he repeated the same on Thursday night, three months after he imposed the March 18 state of emergency.
"FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and House Speaker Martins Chike Amaewhule all took part in the peace talks at the Villa."
