Nigerian Government has dismissed the reported resignation of Senator George Akume as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
The clarification was contained in a statement issued late Saturday night by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President, (Information and Strategy).
Our correspondent reports that the statement was following social media that Akume resigned on Saturday.
The reports claimed he is being positioned to take over as the APC National Chairman following the resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje.
However, Onanuga categorically said in the statement that “Akume remains SGF.”
“There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Senator George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, currently in Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments.
“The information circulating about Akume's replacement is untrue. Agents of mischief fabricated it.
“The Presidency advises Nigerians to disregard the fake news,” he stated.
