The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State has described the reported resignation of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Dr. George Akume as fake news.
Social media has been awash with reports that Akume resigned on Saturday.
The reports claimed he is being positioned to take over as the APC National Chairman following the resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje.
NATIONAL POST reports that the APC North Central has been clamouring for the position.
Same reports alleged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Special Adviser on Policy Coordination, Hadiza Usman is expected to take over as the country’s SGF.
However, in a statement issued Friday night, the APC State Publicity Secretary, Dan-Morgan Ihomun, said the viral reports were fake news.
According to him, “I have received several calls and messages regarding the status of Sen. Dr. George Akume, CON, Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
“Let me state clearly that the SGF has not resigned.”
He urged Nigerians to ignore the rumour, stressing that the SGF was committed to his duties and would continue to serve the nation diligently.
