13 abducted passengers rescued after days in captivity

By

The 13 passengers abducted by kidnappers along the Enugu-Otukpo Road in Benue State have been rescued.

NATIONAL POST recalls that a fully-loaded commercial bus belonging to Benue Links was hijacked by hoodlums days back.

They marched the occupants into the bush and later demanded N350 million for their release.

However, on Sunday, security operatives rescued all the victims.

Chairman of the Local Government Area, Adah Inalegwu, confirmed the rescue of the abductees on Sunday.

Inalegwu said that the joint operations led by the police and members of vigilantes in that area resulted to the rescue of two abductees on Saturday.

According to him, youths of the area enlisted the services of youths from neighbouring Kogi State, leading to increased pressure, which made the kidnappers abandon the remaining eleven victims at Oando village at about 4.00 pm on Sunday

The Local Government Chairman further said that the provision of logistics by Governor Hyacinth Alia, with improved security surveillance and tracking, led to the rescue of the victims.

The victims are being profiled before they are reunited with their families.

Our correspondent reports that the development has attracted wide jubilation in the area.

Relatives of the victims had earlier cried out over the difficulty in raising the N350 million ransom.
