$50,000 donation tears Delta APC apart

By

Crisis is currently rocking the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta State over the sharing formula of a $50,000 donation to the party members.

The donation was made by key party stakeholders and was tagged kola nut after a zonal meeting of the party

The meeting was held at Oleh, headquarters of Isoko South local government area, after which Chief Matthew Tonlagha, an Ijaw businessman and chairman of Maton Engineering, reportedly donated $30,000, with additional contributions of $10,000, $5,000, $4,000, and $2,000 coming from other party financiers.

In addition to the foreign currency donations, more than N200 million was raised in naira.

However, rather than share the money to the party members accordingly, some leaders were alleged to have cornered a major portion of it.

Some of the APC leaders in the zone were said to have carried out the action in connivance with former members of the defunct Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) state executive from the area, who recently defected to the APC.

A top politician from the area described the situation as “broad daylight stealing.”

“They hijacked the over $50,000 kola nut money that everybody was supposed to share from.

“Out of over N200 million raised, only N72 million was reportedly shared, just N9 million per local government area across the eight LGAs. Where did the rest go?” He queried.

However, when contacted, APC State Chairman Omeni Sobotie, simply said: “I’m not aware”.

The development has been generating bad blood among party members.

Weeks back, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa dumped the PDP for the APC, alongside their numerous supporters.
