The All Progressives Congress, APC, has claimed that at least five governors will defect to the party in two weeks’ time.
NATIONAL POST reports that the claim was made by National Vice Chairman, (Southeast), Ijeoma Arodiogbu.
He listed the governors to include Bayelsa, Rivers, Plateau, Kano, and either Abia or Enugu.
Arodiogbu was trying to play down the possibility of the opposition coalition unseating President Bola Tinubu.
He said the opposition movement was all a media stunt, and that more governors would join the APC soon.
“We are talking about governors from Bayelsa, Rivers, Plateau, Kano, either Abia or Enugu. In the next two months, you will see them join us officially.
“This idea of forming a so-called opposition coalition is nothing but a media stunt.
“But Nigerians are aligning with a party that is delivering — and that is the APC.
“Of course, Bayelsa is in the picture — that’s why I mentioned it," he claimed.
He also did not rule out Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, though he did not give a definite answer.
"On Adeleke, I can’t give a definitive answer, but I know he has made moves.
“We’re not ruling out Governor Alex Otti of Abia or the Enugu State governor either," he added.
His claims come amid continued attempts by the members of the opposition to forge a united front as the only way to defeat Tinubu in 2027.
They are currently searching for a political platform as both the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the Labour Party, LP, appear to be off the options.
