Commotion over renaming of Polytechnic Ibadan, as students barricade highway

By

Students of The Polytechnic Ibadan are currently blocking the ever busy Sango-Eleyele Road in Ibadan, Oyo State.

They are expressing their grievance over the renaming of the famous polytechnic by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

NATIONAL POST reports that the situation has left motorists, as well as staff of the institution stranded.

Governor Makinde announced to rename The Polytechnic Ibadan to Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic, Ibadan.

He made the announcement during the burial of the former governor a few days ago.

However, the decision has not gone down well with the students, leading to the ongoing protest.

Road users, including travellers and members of staff are currently caught up in the ensuing protest.

Olunloyo was the first Ibadan person to serve as the governor of old Oyo State. He served between October and December 1983.
