A member of the National Assembly, Senator Agom Jarigbe, has announced immediate withdrawal from all legislative and constituency duties.
The lawmaker, representing the Cross River North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, made the announcement through a statement he personally signed on Monday.
He said it was necessary to enable him attend to urgent health concerns.
NATIONAL POST reports that the Senator, who did not disclose the nature of the ailment, however, said he is currently receiving treatment.
He also did not mention the hospital where he is being admitted.
According to him, he was acting on medical advice, and as a result, will be away from active duties for a short period.
He also announced that an endorsement rally scheduled to be held in the coming days has been postponed.
He said, “This is a necessary pause, and I am having proper medical attention. God willing, I expect to fully resume my responsibilities within the next two weeks or even sooner.”
While urging people not to politicize his health challenge, he noted that “No mortal is immune to health challenges. This moment reminds us of the fragile nature of life and the need for compassion.
“Let us not lose our shared sense of humanity in the name of politics.”
It was not disclosed how long he would be away from duties.
