A former governor of Nasarawa State, Senator Tanko Umaru Almakura has been appointed as chairman of the governing board of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
His appointment was made on Tuesday by President Bola Tinubu.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa made the disclosure on Tuesday, while launching the AFD supported ICT Development Project to 10 selected Nigerian universities.
Almakura, a businessman and politician was noted to have spearheaded several developmental projects in Nasarawa state.
UBEC, a federal intervention agency under the Ministry of Education is responsible for the release of counterpart funding for basic education delivery across the country.
Almakura is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Before now, he was being projected to take over as the National Chairman of the party.
