PDP, LP crisis: APGA woos Mbah, Otti

By

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has commenced moves to lure governors Peter Mbah and Alex Otti of Enugu and Abia, respectively into the party.

This comes amid conflict in the two major opposition political parties, the Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

NATIONAL POST recalls that the South-East PDP had threatened to quit should the national leadership fail to recognise SKE Ude-Okoye as the party’s National Secretary.

However, that threat was not paid heed to as the PDP National Executive Committee, NEC, on Monday, ratified Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the Secretary.

No word has come from the South-East PDP since that decision was taken.

For the Labour Party, it is presently fragmented, with Julius Abure controlling one, while Senator Nenadi Usman leads another faction.

Otti, the only governor on the party’s platform, recently declared that he won’t join the opposition coalition to the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

APGA is now working to exploit the crisis in the two political parties.

The National Publicity Secretary of APGA, Mr Ejimofor Opara, said the party is set to poach both Mbah and Otti.

Ejimofor said the decision was taken at the Party's National Working Committee (NWC) meeting where the Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Uche Nwegbo, was mandated to lead a high-powered delegation to commence the process.

He said: "The National Working Committee's decision is a testament to APGA's commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive platform for progressive governance in Nigeria.

"At the 16th NWC Meeting held at the Party's National Headquarters in Abuja, the NWC resolved to reach out to Governors Peter Mbah of Enugu State and Alex Otti of Abia State, with a view to welcoming them into the APGA family.

"This development was sequel to a motion moved by the Party's Vice Chairman Southeast, Rev. Augustine Ehiemere, who noted that the current political landscape makes it expedient for the party to take this step.

"APGA is known for its commitment to the welfare of the poor and vulnerable and remains steadfast in its mission to leave no one behind. The Party's leadership believes that the inclusion of these governors will further strengthen its resolve to make a positive impact in the lives of Nigerians."
