Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Sunday, launched another attack on former vice president, Atiku Abubakar and Mr Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate during the 2023 election.
Wike spoke in Abuja during a church thanksgiving by the ministry.
He said Obi will never be president of Nigeria.
The former Rivers governor said Atiku had been junketing from one political party to another, all in a bid to grab power for selfish reasons.
According to him, “In 2006, you were in this party, in 2014, you moved to another party, in 2019, you came back to another party, now 2025, you are moving to another party.
“To rescue who? You want to rescue your stomach; it is not Nigeria you want to rescue.”
On Peter Obi, Wike accused him of stifling democracy at the grassroots while as Anambra governor, noting that the LP chieftain had no moral ground to complain about democracy dying in Nigeria.
He urged the congregation not to be beclouded by emotions but facts.
“Some of you, you have sympathy for somebody you don’t know.
“I will say it, and that is where you are going to make a mistake. You say Peter Obi is going to be president. President where?
“Some of you, you don’t know somebody, it is just out of emotion; for 8 years he was governor, he never conducted local government election.
“Never; that time Nigerians were not angry, they were happy that you refused to conduct local government election, eight good years.
“That one was democracy? You are now talking that democracy is not working. But it worked under your own, you were the chairman of local government, you were the governor, only one man.
“The time has passed, he won’t have the opportunity again.
“You are forming a coalition. They cannot stay out of power; unfortunately, they have stayed out, they won’t come back.
“If Tinubu’s government will not work, I will not support it; I know it will work; yes, he has challenges, but these are the things he met on ground, not that he was in government.”
NATIONAL POST reports that Atiku, Obi and other opposition leaders last week unveiled African Democratic Congress, ADC, as the official platform with which to stop President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Many people are advocating that Obi should be given the presidential ticket of the party.
In 2023, Obi polled a surprised figure with a movement driven by his political group, the Obidients.
After that election, Wike described him as the real hero of the election.
He said Obi was not a democrat and would never be president of Nigeria.
