The Nigerian Senate has removed suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as the new Chairman of the Senate Committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organisations.
The development was announced at today’s plenary by Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
He named Aniekan Bassey as Natasha’s replacement.
In February, Senator Natasha was removed as Chair of the Senate Committee on Local Content and reassigned to the Diaspora and NGOs Committee.
This comes days after a Federal High Court ordered that Natasha’s suspension by the Senate be lifted.
Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court described her suspension as unconstitutional.
Natasha had earlier announced that she would resume plenary last Tuesday, a situation that heightened tension at the National Assembly.
Security was beefed up apparently to stop her action.
However, she later disclosed that in line with legal advice, she would await the Certified True Copy of the court judgement.
