The presidency has said that Peter Obi may likely lose his followership ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
It spoke through the Special Adviser to the President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga,
With over six million votes, Peter Obi came third in the 2023 presidential election and this came as a surprise to many, especially his opponents, who never believed he had such a massive followership.
In fact, most people in the camp of the former Anambra State governor believe that the Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate, won the election but was rigged out.
Onanuga said that the worst decision Obi would make would be to ally with Atiku to run as the vice presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, saying his followers will not accept the arrangement.
"But let me tell you something, if Peter aligns with Atiku in 2027, he will not get the blind followership he got in 2023. It will not happen," Onanuga said in an interview on Arise News on Thursday.
"Because those who want him [to be president] would say, no, [we] want you to be president. [We] don't want you to be vice president.
“So that will never happen. I look at it, they are just trying to do a lot of permutations. They are trying to do all kinds of permutations.
"I can tell you, the APC will still be in power in 2027. The achievements of Tinubu will speak for him," Onanuga added.
Peter Obi is part of the Coalition of political leaders who recently adopted the ADC.
