Fubara removal: ‘Shettima spoke in tongues’ - Shehu Sani

By

Former federal lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has offered his opinion on the controversial comment made by Vice President Kashim Shettima at a book launch in Abuja on Thursday.

Shettima had, while going down memory lane, recalled how former president, Goodluck Jonathan wanted to remove him as Borno Governor.

He, however, said Jonathan was clearly told that he lacked the constitutional power to remove even an elected councillor.

According to him, the matter was then laid to rest.

His speech was interpreted to mean his disagreement with the suspension of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara by President Bola Tinubu.

Reacting, Sani said that Shettima spoke in tongues and therefore should have known better that he couldn't control its interpretation or misinterpretation.

In a post on X, Sani wrote: “When you speak in tongues, utter a phrase or a proverb, you can’t control its interpretation or misinterpretation. My Brother the VP should know this rule better.”

Meanwhile, the Vice President’s office has since issued a statement clarifying that his remarks were taken out of context and not intended as criticism of President Tinubu’s actions.

In a statement signed by Shettima’s media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, he said the VP was offering a historical reflection and reaffirmed his full support for the President’s intervention in Rivers State.
