PDP ex-presidential aspirant, Momodu resigns, joins ADC

By

A former presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Chief Dele Momodu has officially resigned from the party.

The veteran journalist cited what he described as the party's takeover by antidemocratic forces.

In a letter dated July 17, 2025, addressed to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman in Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, Momodu announced his immediate departure from the party.

“My reason is clear and direct. Our party has undeniably been seized by antidemocratic elements, both from within and without, in broad daylight.

"It is, therefore, honorable to relinquish the remains of the party to them while the majority of us earnestly align with the new coalition party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC),” he stated.

Momodu, a former presidential aspirant under the PDP banner and publisher of Ovation International, expressed gratitude to the ward-level party leadership for their unwavering support throughout the years.

His defection to the ADC signifies a significant shift in Edo State’s political landscape and contributes momentum to the ongoing realignments preceding the 2027 general elections.

Momodu had joined the PDP in 2021 and actively engaged in national debates and party affairs.

His departure follows a series of resignations by notable figures disenchanted with the internal dynamics of the PDP.

Among them is a former vice president, Atiku Abubakar.
