The prime suspect in the murder of two students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, AAUA, Ondo State has died in police custody.
His death came a few days after he was arrested by the police during which he made a confessional statement on how he murdered the two students who were his tenants.
The suspect, Femi Oladele popularly known as 'Tallex' is the landlord of the deceased students.
NATIONAL POST recalls that the victims included Andrew Eloho Okah, 25, and John Friday Abba, 19. They were both friends.
However, emerging reports now show that the prime suspect died on Friday following a strange and brief illness while in detention.
There are, however, conflicting reports that he died days ago right there in a detention facility, whereas the police said he died in the hospital yesterday, Friday.
Tallex was arrested along with two other suspects for kidnapping, robbery, rape and murder of the 200-level undergraduates of the Department of History and International Studies (Faculty of Arts) and the Department of Economics (Faculty of Agriculture) of the institution.
The decomposing remains of one the victims were discovered in a shallow grave in a forest that borders Ondo and Ekiti states.
The body of the second victim is yet to be found as of the time of filing this report.
One of the sources said, "He (Tallex) is dead. We were told that he died after falling sick. But what we are still not sure is the actual time and date of his death. We have been hearing that he died about a week ago.
"But the police are saying that he died yesterday (Friday). It is confusing. Also, some police officers hinted to us that he died in the cell and we are hearing another narrative that Tallex died in a hospital. We actually don't know what is happening."
However, the Police spokesperson in the state, Olayinka Ayanlade, stated that he was rushed to the hospital where he gave up the ghost on Friday.
The spokesman said Tallex had been sick ever since he was arrested but finally gave up the ghost on Friday.
He, however, said the police would not be deterred in pursuing the course of justice with the other suspects.
