Many feared dead as gunmen attack Imo communities

A number of people have been confirmed dead following unknown gunmen attack in Ndi-Ejezie, Umualaoma, and Ndiakuwata Uno communities all in Arondizuogu, Ideato North Local Government Areas of Imo State.

The incident occurred Friday morning.

NATIONAL POST learnt that the armed men stormed both communities and shot several locals.

DSP Okoye Henry, Police Public Relations Officer of the Imo State Command confirmed this in a statement on Friday.

He confirmed that "over seven persons" were gruesomely killed in the attack, while an unspecified number of others were critically injured.

He said the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Aboki Danjuma condemned the incident, assuring that the perpetrators will be brought to book.

"The senseless assault, which claimed the lives of over seven persons and left several others critically injured, was described by the CP as barbaric, inhumane, and totally unacceptable.

"He assured the public that the Command has deployed adequate operational and intelligence assets to identify, apprehend, and bring the perpetrators to justice.

"Consequently, the CP has led a tactical unit for intense combing of the affected areas and affirmed that the situation is now under control, and proactive security measures have been taken to forestall further attacks and restore lasting peace in the region."

As of the time of filing this report, no group has claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Imo State has witnessed series of gunmen attacks, as well as confrontations with security operatives.
