A 19-year-old girl, Esther Gambo, has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and killing two seven-year-old girls.
She also allegedly fled with an infant belonging to one Nafisa Dahiru.
The incident occurred in Toro local government area of Bauchi State.
NATIONAL POST reports that the suspect is currently being held by the Bauchi State Police Command.
CSP Mohammed Ahmed Wakil, the state police spokesman, explained that the incident was reported to the police on July 22, 2025.
According to him, Esther lured the victims- Khadija Sama'ila and A'isha Dahiru from Ungwan Sarkin Yaki village and later murdered them in a maize farm using a machete.
The woman, a resident of Lemoro Village, reportedly lured the victims under the pretext of helping them when the incident happened.
The killings of the two girls by the teenager triggered violent protests by angry youths, which resulted in the burning of churches and an attempt to torch the Tulu Divisional Police Headquarters.
Following the deployment of police personnel, normalcy was restored and 16 suspects were arrested in connection with the unrest.
CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, the Commissioner of police, appealed to residents to remain calm and be law-abiding, assuring the public that investigations were ongoing to bring to book those responsible for the breakdown of law and order.
As of the time of filing this report, the motive behind the killing of the girls has not been established.
