Two soldiers were among those arrested as operatives of the Ogun State Police Command conducted a midnight raid at Hillton Hotel, Osiele, Abeokuta in the Odeda local government area of the state.
A suspected armed cultist and nineteen others were also nabbed during the operation.
It was gathered that the officers, consisting of operatives from the Odeda division, Aregbe division, the Anti-Cultism Unit, and SWAT, led by SP Adejoh Israel, stormed the hotel at about 8:20pm on Friday.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ogun State Command, Omolola Odutola, the officers acted on credible intelligence.
The raid, she said, was targeted at suspected members of the Aiye confraternity who were reported gathered at the hotel.
“In the course of the operation, twenty-two (22) suspects were arrested, including two (2) soldiers, nineteen (19) male suspects, and three (3) females.
“Recovered from the suspects were one cut-to-size locally made gun, one UTC axe, and several blue beret caps associated with the cult group.
“No casualties were recorded during the operation,” the PPRO disclosed.
While thanking members of the public for providing timely information, the police assured that the suspects would be prosecuted.
