The United States of America has come hard on Nigerian politicians over their flamboyant lifestyle.
NATIONAL POST reports that this came barely 24 hours after it announced that Nigerians travelling to the country just to give birth would not get a visa.
The announcement was made by the US Mission in Nigeria via its X account on Monday.
However, while Nigerians are still trying to come to terms with the restriction, the Mission has now come hard on governors, accusing them or prioritizing new government houses while the masses wallow in hardship.
Quoting TheAfricaReport, it wrote: “While Nigerians are urged to endure economic hardship ‘like labor pains,’ some governors are splurging billions on new government houses.”
It went further to cite another report by BudgITng, where it warned that "instead of funding schools, clinics, or agriculture, leaders prioritize buildings they barely use."
The statement went further: “@cislacnigeria adds: ‘There is more money, little accountability, and no priority.’
“Such alleged lack of fiscal responsibility fuels inequality and erodes public trust. #TransparencyTuesday.”
This is considered a direct indictment on Nigerian leaders who are living in affluence while telling the masses to make sacrifices.
Since the coming on board of the current administration in May 29, 2023, Nigerians have faced worsened hunger and suffering occasioned by the twin policies of petrol subsidy removal and floating of the Naira.
It could be recalled that during the recently-held National Executive Council, NEC, meeting of the All Progressives Congress, APC, President Bola Tinubu advised the governors to go and water the grasses at the grassroots.
