The new Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, Prof Simon Ortuanya has thanked God for his emergence.
NATIONAL POST recalls that Ortuanya was on Sunday elected as the Vice Chancellor of UNN.
Making his acceptance speech after a letter of appointment was presented to him, Ortuanya singled out President Bola Tinubu and Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State for special praise.
In a trending video, he lauded President Tinubu “for the transformation he has brought to bear in education in Nigeria,” stressing that “we are indeed proud of him, and very proud of his administration.”
Ortuanya then continued his appreciation by thanking Governor Mbah for “his exceptional drive and tenacity.
“Let me appreciate our Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for his determination and commitment, for his doggedness and single-mindedness in making sure that today becomes a reality,” the new Vice Chancellor said.
He, however, did not leave out the Chancellor and Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Engr. Kayode Olubunmi Ojo; members of the selection board; professors; academic and non-academic staff; students; and the entire university community for being part of the historic moment.
He pledged to work towards restoring and preserving the dignity of man, just as he rallied his fellow professors who went into the contest with him to join him in moving the institution forward.
Our correspondent reports that at least 28 professors sought the coveted position, but Ortuanya made history to become the first indigene of Nsukka to become the VC of the university since its formation in 1960.
