Peter Obi won Rivers in 2023, results were changed - Amaechi opens up

A former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, on Saturday made fresh claims about the now rested 2023 presidential election.

There has been claims in several quarters, especially among Peter Obi's supporters that he won the 2023 election.

Obi, however, challenged the outcome of the election up till the Supreme Court but President Bola Tinubu's victory was stamped.

Amaechi, who is seeking presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has now re-echoed the claim that Obi won the election.

During an X space on Saturday, he said Obi, who was the Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate, won the election in Rivers State.

According to him, “I can agree with you to some extent that Obi won Rivers State.

"But I don’t know how the results were changed.”

NATIONAL POST recalls that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, announced Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the winner.

INEC's declared that the APC garnered 231,591 votes in Rivers state, while LP polled 175,071 votes.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, finished third with 88,468 votes.

Meanwhile, during the same interview, Amaechi gave a condition to support whoever emerged as the ADC presidential candidate.

Amaechi vowed to support ADC's presidential candidate if he emerges from a free and fair primary election.

He said: "In a free and fair primary, whoever wins will have my full support. I will be deeply devoted to the campaign and will do everything in my ability to help ADC unseat this current clueless government.

"I will abandon the coastal road, that road is for stealing

"Electoral reforms are the lowest hanging fruits for me if I become President.

"There will be electoral reforms in my first six months."

He said he knows the secret to defeating President Tinubu in the election.

Apart from Amaechi, Obi and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar have also declared interest to clinch the ADC ticket.
