The service year of a National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, member in Lagos, Ushie Rita Uguamaye, popularly known as “Raye,” has been extended for two months.
Raye was in the news months back after she criticized the government of President Bola Tinubu over the welfare of corps members.
She also described Lagos as “smelling state” in a viral TikTok video.
However, as her colleagues passed out from service, she has now accused the scheme of withholding her discharge certificate in what she claims is retaliation for her criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s government.
In a clip shared on Instagram on Saturday, the corps member claimed she was repeatedly instructed to “go to the back” during the clearance exercise until her file was eventually seized. She also alleged the official refused to attend to her and ordered her to leave.
According to Ms Uguamaye, she was later informed she would not be issued her discharge certificate on the grounds that she missed the April clearance, a claim she strongly denies.
“I genuinely wish I wasn’t a Lagos State corps member because it’s a waste of my time,” she wrote on social media, adding that she has decided to put the matter behind her.
Reacting to the development, activist, Omoyele Sowore vowed to fight for her until she got justice.
Meanwhile, the NYSC has yet to respond to the allegations.
