An Ikeja Magistrate Court sitting in Ogba, Lagos State has discharged and acquitted Comfort Emmanson, the passenger accused of unruly behaviour and assault aboard an Ibom Air flight.
This is following the withdrawal of the case against her by the Nigeria Police Force.
NATIONAL POST learnt that at the resumed hearing of the case, on Wednesday, the prosecution, Oluwabunmi Adeitan, informed the court that there were new developments that necessitated the withdrawal of the case.
She tendered documents to that effect and urged the court to discharge the accused person.
Consequently, Magistrate Olanrewaju Salami discharged and released Emmason following the withdrawal of the five court charges preferred against her by the police.
This comes hours after the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, (SAN), ordered that the case be withdrawn by the police.
Emmason was remanded in Kirikiri prison on Monday after she failed to meet her bail conditions.
The court had granted her bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.
This did not go down well with several Nigerians who described it as selective justice.
Many Nigerians, including former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and Mr Peter Obi of the Labour Party were irked that while popular Fuji musician, KWAM 1 was given special treatment, Emmanson was sent to prison.
The uproar is believed to have influenced the latest decision by the Nigerian Government.
