The Police in Enugu State have arrested six male suspects involved in armed robbery, motorcycle snatching, and cult-related activities.
The arrests, NATIONAL POST reports, were made during multiple operations.
It led to the recovery of two firearms, seven live rounds of ammunition, a stolen motorcycle, and other incriminating exhibits.
According to a statement signed on Saturday by the spokesman of the Enugu State Police Command, SP Daniel Ndukwe, "On Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m., police operatives attached to the Crack Tactical Squad of the Command, while on routine patrol in the Abakpa area of Enugu, intercepted a male suspect riding a black motorcycle and exhibiting suspicious behaviour."
Ndukwe stated that the suspect, identified as Tochukwu Edeh (male, 27), was searched, leading to the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol loaded with seven rounds of .9mm ammunition, concealed in a black bag in his possession.
"In a separate operation on August 10, 2025, at about 5:00 a.m., operatives of the Command’s Anti-Cultism Squad, acting on the confessions of two notorious suspects already in custody for armed robbery and cultism, arrested three additional male suspects: Odoh Friday (aged 24), Okamkpa Onyeka Chukwu (aged 22), and Uzor Okwudili (aged 23). All confessed to being members of the Black Axe confraternity. Recovered exhibits include one locally made single-barrel pistol, one expended cartridge, three blue candle sticks, and quantities of weeds suspected to be cannabis.
"In another operation, on August 9, 2025, at approximately 12:45 p.m., operatives attached to the Oji-River Police Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), arrested two male suspects: Kosi Ani (aged 22) and Ahmed Ibrahim (aged 29), while they were attempting to sell a snatched Topway motorcycle.
"The arrest and recovery of the motorcycle followed the operatives’ prompt response to credible intelligence. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to having robbed a commercial motorcyclist of the bike at about 9:00 p.m. the previous day.
"Discreet investigations into the cases are ongoing. The arrested suspects will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations," he said in the statement.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa commended the operatives for their gallant efforts and reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to fighting crime and ensuring the safety of all residents in Enugu State.
He also urged citizens to continue supporting the Police with credible information to help strengthen public safety and security.
