Anambra State Police Command has said its investigation into assault and public stripping of NYSC member, Jennifer Elobor has been paused.
NATIONAL POST had reported that at least five armed operatives of the Anambra Security Outfit, codenamed ‘Ugo Ga-Achi’, were captured in a viral video brutalizing the female corps member.
The incident occurred in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area.
Despite her cries and plea for mercy, they continued flogging her and went to the extent of stripping her naked.
Outrage has trailed the incident, with many Nigerians demanding justice for the victim.
However, Anambra Police Command, in a statement on Tuesday, issued by its Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the investigation had been stalled.
According to him, “The Command, however, notes that the alleged victim's unavailability has temporarily stalled the ongoing investigative process.”
He, however, said that assault in any form remained a criminal offence under the Nigerian Law and that it reserves the right to take necessary legal action to aid the court proceedings while waiting for the victim.
“The Command hereby reassures Corps members serving across the State of its unwavering commitment to their protection, urging them to always report incidents of harassment, intimidation, or abuse for prompt intervention.
“The Command further cautions vigilante groups and other quasi-security outfits against acts of brutality or abuse of authority, warning that any such misconduct will not be condoned,” he said.
