The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has expressed condemnation over the brutal assault on a female corps member serving in Anambra State.

Nigerians were on Tuesday treated to a viral video where a female corps member was beaten and stripped naked by operatives of Anambra State security.

The incident occurred in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Reacting, the Scheme said that its findings revealed that a group of operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante Group forcefully entered a Corps Lodge in Oba, alleging that the place was being used for illegal activities which has not been substantiated.

According to the NYSC, the operatives demanded that every occupant of the Lodge should submit themselves for a search.

“Corps Member Edema Elohor Jennifer, AN/ 24C/0626 who was said to be on a visit to the Lodge at this point in time and was assaulted,” it said, adding that the matter had been reported to the police while investigations and other necessary actions were ongoing.

"Management wishes to restate its strong commitment to the welfare and security of its Corps Members nationwide, and would not condone any individual or group of persons that undermines the security of her Corps Members for whatsoever reasons.

"Additionally, Members of the public are enjoined to provide adequate security for our Corps Members in all their respective places of Primary Assignment and host communities," the statement made available by the NYSC management said.

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Government has said the operatives behind the attack had been apprehended and suspended.
