ENSIEC releases Enugu LG election timetable, fixes primary election

The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), is set for the conduct of local government elections in the state.

NATIONAL POST reports that the commission has now released its official schedule for the 2026 Enugu Local Government Chairmanship and Councilorship elections across the 17 LGAS and 260 Electoral wards of Enugu State.

This was contained in a statement signed by its Executive chairman, Prof. Christian C. Ngwu.

The election would hold on Saturday, 26th September, 2026.

ENSIEC disclosed that 23rd January, 2026 to 19th February, 2026 will be for the conduct of party primaries, including resolution of disputes arising from the primaries and observation of same by ENSIEC.

The commission also set 27th November, 2025 to 12th December, 2025 for political parties to submit information on conduct of Party Primaries specifying the time, venue and day of Party Primaries.

The Electoral body further disclosed that 25th March, 2026-27 shall be for screening of chairmanship candidates’ credentials at the ENSIEC Headquarters, in this order- Enugu North Zone- 25th March Enugu East Zone - 26th March Enugu West Zone - 27th March.

The official statement also indicates that the Last day of submission of Nomination Forms ENSIEC 7 and ENSIEC 7A for Chairmanship and Councillorship Election respectively by Political Parties in accordance with Section 29(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, provides for not later than 180 days before the election.
