A 2023 Presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa has disclosed that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, is determined to ensure that the African Democratic Congress, ADC, powered coalition does not succeed.
Ohuabunwa, who recalled that the inability to unite against the ruling party in 2023 paved the way for President Bola Tinubu's victory, said the APC was working hard to frustrate the unity of the opposition.
He pointed out that if votes garnered by the PDP candidate, Atiku Abubakar, his counterparts in Labour Party, New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso were merged, Tinubu would have been defeated.
He made the assertion in an interview with Sun.
According to him, if the three opposition leaders come together ahead of the 2027 election, the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC would be sacked.
He said, "Look at the votes Obi, Atiku and Kwankwaso got in the 2023 presidential election – those votes nearly doubled that of President Tinubu. It’s very possible for them to unseat the APC, but the question is whether they are really serious to do so and whether the ruling party would give them the space to thrive.
"I am saying this because from the look of things, it’s quite clear the APC does not want the coalition to thrive. They don’t want the coalition to take root, let alone bear fruits.
"But if they succeed, they can. They can unseat this government, unless there’s no free and fair election. They have a chance of unseating this government. After all this was how the APC came to power – there was a coalition bringing together the ANPP, the ACN and the CPC".
