The Federal Government has called off the traditional Independence Day parade earlier scheduled to celebrate Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Monday by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).
Imohiosen did not provide a reason for the cancellation but assured Nigerians that the decision would not take away from the significance of the national celebration.
“The cancellation of the parade does not diminish the importance of this milestone,” the statement read.
“All other programmes lined up to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence remain unchanged, and the government remains committed to celebrating this anniversary with dignity and enthusiasm.”
The government expressed regret for any inconvenience caused and appealed for public understanding, urging citizens, the diplomatic community, and invited guests to continue supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform agenda aimed at building a stronger nation.
Earlier, the Federal Government had declared Wednesday, October 1, a public holiday to commemorate the country’s 65 years of independence under the theme “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.”
