Nigerian Newspapers: Top 10 highlights you need to know this Monday morning

Good Morning! Here are today’s top highlights from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. Former Governor of Edo State, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, has said ex-Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and Mr Peter Obi of the Labour Party will not make any impact in the 2027 presidential election. Oshimhole, who made the claims during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, said both Atiku and Obi have a history of electoral defeat, whether they contest together or separately. 

2. Imisi was on Sunday crowned the winner of the Big Brother Naija 2025 season. The female housemate emerged champion after beating off competition from eight other finalists to claim N150 million worth of gifts at stake after 71 days.

3. Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has dismissed claims that his ministry demanded the sum of N1billion to pause a demolition exercise in Oral Estate in Ojota area of the state. He also said his ministry didn't receive N700 million as alleged.

4. After one year of being on the wanted list, a 46 year-old-man, Obadigbo Emmanuel Anumudu has been apprehended for allegedly beheading a 69-year-old woman. He was arrested by operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu. The crime was committed in July 2024.

5. Lawyers to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, have written to the World Medical Association, WMA, over the deteriorating health of the agitator in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS. The letter, dated October 3, 2025, written by the law offices of Bruce Fein, Washington D.C, and addressed to Dr. Jacqueline Kitulu, President of the World Medical Association, detailed Kanu's medical records. 

6. Senator representing Enugu North Senatorial zone, Barr Okey Ezea says those behind the killing of a prominent doctor from Enugu State, Dr Ifeanyi Ogbu, have murdered sleep. The veterinary doctor was murdered by suspected kidnappers hours after he was abducted from his Kubwa residence in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory. His children are still with the gunmen as of the time of this report. 

7. Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have successfully dismantled two major drug cartels behind six different consignments of cocaine. The items were concealed in walls of stainless cups, body cream and hair gel containers. The operation led to the arrest of five suspects and ultimately the arrowhead of the syndicate, Alhaji Hammed Taofeek Ode, who parades as a businessman and real estate developer.

8. Mr Peter Obi, Labour Party's presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, has warned that Nigeria’s future stability is at risk if urgent steps are not taken to address the country’s education crisis. Obi, in a post on his verified X handle on Sunday, cautioned that over 24 million children are currently out of school, stressing that Nigeria holds 24 million reasons to fear what lies ahead” unless concrete action is taken.

9. Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has boasted that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, would take over Abia State, which is currently controlled by the Labour Party. Kalu stated this on Sunday while addressing a crowd of his supporters and APC members at the Abia Hotels in Umuahia.

10. Following worsening insecurity, the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Kebbi Branch, has advised its members to avoid travelling to nine local government areas in the state. The locations were identified as kidnapping hotspots. The directive followed the abduction of a lawyer, Isyaku Muhammad-Danjuma, along the Ibeto–Birnin Kebbi road in Magama Local Government Area of Niger State.
